Mastering Pawn Endgames – Volume 4 by GM Ahmad Alkhatib PGN Only Chessable

One of Chessable’s best break-out authors, IM Ahmad Alkhatib, returns for volume 4 of his excellent endgame series which focuses in on pawns vs. queen and pawns vs. multiple pieces.

Students have loved IM Alkhatib’s easy teaching style and ability to make studying the business end of chess fun.

Volume 1 of Mastering Pawn Endgames was a wide survey of very basic concepts such as the opposition, key squares, the square of a passed pawn and triangulation.

Volume 2 dived into pawn endgames in a bit more in-depth, exploring the more difficult and hard-to-spot instances of the same concepts.

Volume 3 ventured into the realm of pawns vs. a piece and even multiple pieces and how to play with this imbalance

Now Mastering Pawn Endgames: Volume 4 takes us into the realm of the queen vs. passed pawn(s), and multiple pieces vs. multiple pawns and how to win or salvage games with this imbalance.

In these endgames, just like in Volume 3, calculation training comes far more to the fore with the focus less on technique like in volumes 1 and 2.

Cases where one side has multiple pieces (2 bishops, rook and bishop, rook and knight) and the other side only has pawns are, needless to say, extremely common.

That’s why mastering these pawn endgames, in particular, will certainly pay off!
