Train Your Brain to Spot Brilliancies
Even World Champions and Engines Miss
In Turbo-Charge Your Tactics, IM Vladimir Grabinsky and GM Mykhaylo Oleksiyenko tackle the mental barriers that stop you from finding those “wrong-looking” moves that lead to brilliant combinations. They take you brilliancy-hunting in handpicked real-game exercises packed with tactics that even strong players missed.
Part 2 gives you a fresh batch: 200+ mixed positions, taken exclusively from games by World Champions and their challengers — plus a bonus chapter with tactics that even Stockfish didn’t find.
As in part 1, the goal is to deepen your feel for strong, counter-intuitive moves and train with enough “tactical reinforcements” to turbo-charge your improvement!
Ready for a test ride?

The queen’s under attack, and Nepo decided
to exchange it. Was it the best move?
Across the course, you’ll revisit motifs from part 1: unexpected sacrifices, calm retreating moves, anti-positional ideas that lead to surprising combinations… As for the position above, here’s a hint: consider a temporary queen sacrifice!
You’ll also be reminded to use tools like the “method of elimination” or the “stopping a move later than you wanted to” technique. The latter is crucial for combinations: spotting an idea isn’t enough – you need to see further and prove it works.
How Tactics Turbo-Charge Your Strategy
You’ll also see plenty of examples where tactical ideas lead directly to positional gains. Sometimes a smart sacrifice clears an important square; other times, you can improve your pieces by boldly steering them through ‘taboo’ squares:

How could Alekhine have improved his f7-knight here?
All exercises come with in-depth commentary, so you can follow every idea behind the moves. There are no hints about which motif is needed in quiz mode, though, which means you never know in advance what you’re looking for — just like in a real game.
The material is spread across seven chapters of increasing difficulty, and each one ends with a short summary highlighting the key themes and patterns, helping you connect the dots and spot them faster in your own games.
Once you’ve made it through these chapters, you’ll be ready to tackle the bonus chapter on engines.
